10 Easy Steps to Planning the Perfect Golf Tournament

If you are planning to host a golf tournament then you need to be aware of all the many details and duties involved, from golf giveaways to promotional press releases. Playing in a tournament means that you need to ensure your clubs are in working order, your paperwork filed and your game refined. However, when you are actually planning the tournament, things become much more complicated and you will need to follow a very specific checklist if you want the event to be a success. Let’s take a look at ten easy steps to planning the perfect golf tournament.

1. Six months in advance, hold a meeting with the tournament director and tournament committee. We cannot stress the importance of this step enough! There are more than a few individuals who have tried the non-communication route and it always tends to fall apart at the last minute.

2. You’re going to need volunteers and you need to ensure you have them on hand. Volunteers will help set up the area and ensure it is free of debris. After the tournament these volunteers may be useful in litter cleanup, which might not seem important at the onset, but after the tournament, you will be glad that you put some thought into the matter.

3. Create your entry forms! Your participants need some method of entering the tournament, and you will need to determine whether you want to create an electronic entry form or allow mail-ins. Keep in mind that many golfers may not use the internet and with that being the case you might have both types available to choose from.

4. For you tournament, why not give each participant a logo golf shirt? You should either design your own logo or hire a professional to do this for you and give all those involved something tangible to remember the event.

5. Choose a course ahead of time. This should be obvious but it is not unheard of for a planned tournament to accidently leave out the location. So make sure to scout out a few different areas before the tournament and choose the best one.

6. If there are any celebrities showing up then it might be a good idea to sign agreements with them in the event that there is profit to be made.

7. Look over your budget and ensure you have the money to cover this undertaking. You don’t want to come up short and you certainly don’t want to miss anything.

8. If there are donors for this event then it would be a good idea for you to sign agreements with them to ensure everything goes smoothly.

9. Determine what your volunteers are going to be doing ahead of time so there are no surprises on game day.

10. Prepare for your press release, which will need to contain all of the pertinent and relevant information on the tournament.
