There is no doubt that the one of the most popular items on the business gift list has to be gift baskets and food items. There is such a variety of possibilities with food gifts that they are almost a no-brainer, covering every conceivable occasion.

Knowing when a gift basket is appropriate is more than knowing when not to send one, it is about knowing in what situations you should send one! There are times when a strategically sent basket could make a difference in an employees long term loyalty, a client’s next move, or a customer’s recommendation. Gift baskets are a great way for companies to be seen as friendly, compassionate, and personal.

Some reasons to send gift baskets are:

  • When an employee has a new baby
  • When an employee has a significant anniversary (5, 10, 25 etc.)
  • When an employee gets married
  • When an employee or client loses a family member
  • Thanksgiving
  • Channukah
  • Christmas
  • Easter
  • Family illness

Employees aren’t the only ones you can send food baskets to. At Christmas it is appropriate to send any client gift baskets, especially the very good clients. By being thoughtful you not only build long term relationships, you build and secure your business.

There are many types of food that go into gift baskets. Cookie baskets are very popular, as are fruit baskets. An added bonus is that the container is often a gift in itself.

If you are sending to an office to be shared among several people be sure to send a big enough basket that there won’t be a duel over the last slice of cheese. Plan the baskets accordingly, and order early. Remember that the postal system can get a bit clogged during the holidays.
