Writing business thank you notes is part of good business manners. Good manners have never gone out of style and this is especially true in business.
If you want to set yourself apart from the competition, and you do, it is important to cultivate the habit of writing thank you notes for your business.
There are several types of thank you notes you might write for different areas of business. Among them are:
*Thank you for a purchase
*Thank you to a speaker
*Thank you to a boss (for a bonus, a raise, or whatever)
*Thank you for a business referral
Of course there are many more times when a thank you note would be appropriate.
When you are writing business thank you notes you will need to choose your stationary carefully. A simple, elegant design with the words Thank You written across the front will be perfect.
Alway hand write your notes. Do not print them or type them out. In fact, if you have a secretary don’t have her write them for you. The writing should be the same all the way through the note, including the signature.
It is also really nice to send a small gift with the thank you for a referral. Here is an example of a good thank you note to send when someone refers a customer to you:
Dear Mr. Smith,
Thank you for referring Mr. Jones to our company, Corporate Snobs. Mr. Jones was able to have his corporate Christmas list taken care of quickly. Your recommendation means a lot to us. Please accept this token of our appreciation, and thank you again.
Sincerely
Mr. Smart CEO
A small gift, like this small photo key chain, can cause Mr. Smith to remember you the next time he knows someone who could use your services.
Writing business thank you notes should be a scheduled activity every week. Don’t wait too long before sending them, and don’t let them become overwhelming to do.
Thank you notes are a good policy for your healthy company.
